A Guide for Caregivers: How to Provide Gentle-Touch for Your Loved One
Afraid to touch your loved-one in fear of making them worse? Here is a step-by-step guide to provide gentle touch massage safely and effectively, even for someone with advanced illness or at the end of life.
My colleague, Cindy Spence, and I created Clinical Skills for End-of-Life Massage. It is a three-day program designed to prepare Massage Therapists, RN’s, Social Workers and others to work with people at the end of life. Twenty CE hours are provided for massage therapists, and for other professions in most states.
Encompassing both skill set and mindset, this course will support those who wish to expand their practices to include hospice and palliative care and/or desire to support loved ones as they face advanced illness. The peer practice clinic provides opportunities for learners to develop and practice appropriate treatment plans to address various symptoms at every stage of the dying process.
Why Choose Massage Therapy?
Our bodies are amazing! They have the ability to heal from all kinds of illness and disease. Massage therapy can enhance the body’s natural restorative functioning and can support your entire body as you journey through illness and treatment. It can be integrated into traditional treatments such as chemotherapy, radiation and surgery.
You deserve comfort and a sense of well-being. I am here to provide a space that is open and trusting; where you can find total rest and relaxation; where you don’t have to be anything for anyone; you can just be…

“Susan is simply terrific! She knows just what to do to alleviate my trouble spots, which crop up from time to time, and does so with a deft and caring touch. I will be forever grateful for her skillful lymphatic drainage massages.”
“I went to Progressive for a Manual Lymphatic Massage with Susan. I was in a beautiful, very relaxing room laying on a heated massage table. Susan really knows what she is doing and I could feel the effects before she was even done. I’m looking forward to going back.”
“After bilateral mastectomy, chemo, radiation, I heard about PMT. I’m at high risk for lymphedema, she was recommended as someone who specializes in helping cancer patients. I immediately felt comfortable on the comfy, warm massage table & she helped me feel better almost immediately after the massage began. I’m currently recovering from reconstructive surgery and it is slow going. The massage has begun helping with a condition called fat necrosis – Her knowledge and experience are invaluable.”
“I did not have any specific expectations however I was extremely pleased. My body has changed so much post treatment. I slept so well the night following my first massage.”
